MilliporeSigma, a global life science and technology company, hosted the first STEM Seminar of 2024. Through a lab exercise, the high school juniors learned how batch record instructions are critical to quality control and outcomes that impact patients’ lives. During the Q & A, the science-centric professionals reinforced the value of being inquisitive and learning new things. The wrap-up tour offered a first-hand look at science-based research, development and production. Ashley Williams, Senior Engagement Specialist, summarized the company’s partnership with Building STEPS: "At MilliporeSigma, our interaction with students is a commitment to empower minds and spark curiosity. Our mission is to illuminate the journey toward biotech excellence, motivating students to emerge as the innovators of tomorrow."

THE NETWORK EXPERIENCE
THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2024
TOWSON UNIVERSITY
10 A.M.-12 P.M.
SAVE THE DATE! The Network Experience is a meaningful opportunity to engage 1:1 with students. With a focus on language and social cues for a professional introduction, students prepare an elevator pitch and practice with a professional, receive feedback and rotate to another volunteer. The goal is to perfect their pitch with each rotation. After several rotations and constructive feedback, students are more confident and better positioned to engage in a professional setting. To volunteer or for more information, contact Jennifer Descoteau: jdescoteau@buildingsteps.org.
COLLEGE PERSISTENCE IS KEY TO COMPLETION
“Accept what is out of your personal control and commit to action that improves and enriches your life.” With this guiding message, Erin Pressman, LCSW-C at Kennedy Krieger Institute, shares strategies with seniors to equip them for the inevitable college hiccups and challenges. 87% of Building STEPS students are the first in their family to earn a college degree. Expanding their persistence skills to support college completion is key to our students’ college and career success.
