What a fantastic last day of Summer Experience! Ciena Corporation generously gifted Tech Packages to our first-year college students. A new laptop, an Amazon gift card for school necessities, and direct support for college persistence propel student success. Giving back to the community, a team from Ciena Blue Planet and Building STEPS students assembled and donated school supply packages for elementary students at Morrell Park Elementary/Middle School WMAR Television captured all the fun!
CAREER DEVELOPMENT IN ACTION
Summer Experience offered students the valuable opportunity for career exposure and immersion in a field of their interest. Internships at Baltimore Police Forensics Division, BUGSS, CLIA, Code in the Schools, Diamonds on the Rise, IMET, Kennedy Krieger, M&T Bank, National Aquarium, Port Discovery, Rawlings Conservatory, SWB, Towson University's Center for STEM Excellence/SciTech and the University of Maryland Medical Center enabled students to explore diverse career paths and envision their futures. Marvena Cole, Manager of Volunteer Services at UMMC shared: “Seeing Nadine return for a second year to explore new departments has meant so much and shows that we are supporting great experiences for students interested in medical & clinical settings.”
BONDING OVER GOLF
Summertime team building keeps students connected. The rising high school juniors and seniors joined the Building STEPS programming team for competitive fun at Top Golf! Meeting for the first time or catching up during the summer break, everyone had a fantastic time sharing laughs over golf swings and enjoying lunch. Camaraderie will be strong when programming kicks off in September with STEM Seminars and College Workshops.
